Credit Union’s Community Partners program supports local arts and activities
HERNDON, VA (February 10, 2015) – Northwest Federal Credit Union has added a new organization to its Community Partners program – the League of Reston Artists (LRA). The LRA is a diverse group of artists and supporters of the arts living throughout the Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., areas.
“We are always excited to welcome new Community Partners who share our commitment for giving back,” said Chris McDonald, President/CEO of Northwest Federal. “The League of Reston Artists is a good fit for our program as it enriches the community by offering ways to experience and appreciate a wide range of visual art.
Northwest Federal plans to host an art show this spring at the Herndon branch to help draw attention to the LRA and its work. Details are being finalized.
“I was excited to learn about NWFCU, which genuinely reaches out to support and strengthen our local community organizations through Community Partner Groups,” said Karen Hutchison, Show Chair and Member of the Board of Directors. “Their interest in expanding their focus to the local arts, and the League of Reston Artists, brings a new perspective for our membership. I am happy to know Michelle Sandy and the bright outlook she brings to our organization on behalf of NWFCU. I personally look forward to what the new year will bring with this relationship.” Michelle Sandy is a long-time employee of Northwest Federal and helped facilitate the partnership.
According to Jim Schlett, President, the LRA is committed to providing its members with opportunities to grow, learn and exhibit their creative accomplishments. The organization also provides the local community with more opportunities to experience a wide range of visual art, as well as gain insight into the creative process.
“We’re thankful for the artistic opportunities that our relationship with NWFCU will bring to our membership,” said Schlett. “We look forward to increasing appreciation of the arts among our members and the general public.”
Northwest Federal’s mission is two-pronged: to help its members succeed financially and to support the communities it serves. The Credit Union’s Community Partner program pushes that mission even further by supporting area groups that strengthen and improve life for local residents. It also enables LRA members to join the Credit Union, and benefit from the many products and services offered. Also, the LRA can apply for a Community Partner grant to request funding for projects that benefit the local community.
In addition providing financial services through online and mobile banking, Northwest Federal has branch locations in Chantilly, Gainesville, Herndon, Leesburg, Manassas and Vienna. For more information, visit www.nwfcu.org.
