NuVision Federal Credit Union awards $20,000 in prizes to local students and schools for the Think.Tank.Challenge

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (June 3, 2016) — NuVision Federal Credit Union today announced the winners of the first annual Think.Tank.Challenge., an educational essay contest with $20,000 in prize money awarded to local high school students and participating schools.

NuVision Federal Credit Union presented a giant check for $5,000 to Stefan, a student at Schurr High School in Montebello, who was the 1st Place winner of the Think.Tank.Challenge. Stefan’s high school also received a check for $3,600 in prize money as part of the contest.

NuVision’s Think.Tank.Challenge. took place among four local high schools, including Carson High School, Lakewood High School, Long Beach Polytechnic High School, and Schurr High School. The contest challenged students to “explain what young adults can do to become better savers,” and to answer the question: “What will you do in the next five years to secure the future of your retirement?”

“NuVision was so impressed with the incredible enthusiasm and dedication of the hundreds of high school students who participated in the Think.Tank.Challenge.,” said Roger Ballard, Chief Executive Officer at NuVision Federal Credit Union. “This year, we really challenged students to learn and think about important financial topics, but in the context of a fun, educational contest.”

Including this year’s Think.Tank.Challenge., NuVision has awarded over $50,000 in educational grants and scholarships to local students and schools since 2010.

The Think.Tank.Challenge. awarded a total of $20,000 in student scholarships and school prizes. Among all participating high schools, the 1st Place winner received a $5,000 scholarship, five Runner-Up winners received $1,000 each, and 10 Honorable Mention winners received $250 each, for a total of $12,500 in student scholarships. In addition, school prizes totaling $7,500 were awarded, including $2,500 to the school of the 1st Place winner, $600 to each of the schools of the five Runner-Up winners, and $500 to each of the high schools that participated in the contest.
