Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation recently held its first ever Kids in Crisis drive, collecting over 2,000 plush toys, blankets, and other comfort items for local first responders to provide to children in crisis situations.
“The Kids in Crisis drive supports the important work our first responders perform to serve our community, while also fulfilling our mission to advocate for the health and well-being of youth in our community,” said Executive Director of the NWFCU Foundation, Alexzandra Shade. “We were touched by the generosity of those who donated over 2,000 items to help these children in their time of need.”
The NWFCU Foundation kicked off the drive by visiting five fire stations in Herndon and Reston, Va, providing these stations’ first responders with items to comfort children during traumatic situations. During the visit, the NWFCU Foundation provided lunch in partnership with Mission BBQ of Chantilly, Va.
“Mission BBQ is committed to supporting all those who protect, serve, and save in our communities,” said Mission BBQ’s Community Ambassador, Liz McGuirk. “We appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the Kids in Crisis drive and look forward to partnering again with the NWFCU Foundation during its 2018 #weekofgiving initiatives.”
