NY Credit Union Foundation publishes annual report

ALBANY, NY (May 13, 2014) -- The New York Credit Union Foundation has published its Annual Report, which highlights the Foundation’s financial education programs, grant-making programs and disaster relief efforts from 2013. The Foundation had a significant and far-reaching impact last year, and continued to follow through on its mission of “fostering the financial independence of New Yorkers through credit unions.”

Highlights from the 2013 report include:

 

  • Nearly 30 financial educators received training and resources at FEST 2013.

 

  • The Foundation provided 72 credit union employees and volunteer leaders with a total of $39,178 in Professional Development grants to help fund their participation in industry training sessions and education events.

 

  • Seventeen credit unions received a total of $35,874 in Financial Fitness grants to enhance their operations and improve service to members.

 

  • A total of $10,941 in Smart Money grants was awarded to seven credit unions to assist with providing financial education to members or consumers.

 

  • The Foundation provided disaster relief grants totaling $2,000 to credit union employees, volunteers and members impacted by the Colorado floods and Oklahoma tornadoes.

 

  • Credit unions gained access to programs and resources focused on engaging underserved groups like immigrants, low-wealth families, youths and young adults.

The report also highlights the individuals, credit unions, chapters, events and organizations that supported the Foundation financially in 2013.

“Supporting credit unions is what drives the Foundation, and support from credit unions is what makes it all possible,” said Vicki O’Neill, Foundation board chairperson. “In the year ahead, the Foundation will continue to provide credit unions, credit union professionals and volunteer leaders with grants to help fund professional development and financial education programs/initiatives.”
