Ocean Financial Federal Credit Union awards annual scholarship winners

Four College-Bound Students Share $8,000

OCEANSIDE, NY (May 24, 2023)Ocean Financial Federal Credit Union (OFFCU) has awarded its annual Patrick McNeill Memorial Scholarship to four members who are graduating high school seniors headed to college, to help further their education. Each student will receive $2,000 to go directly toward school-related expenses.

Each of the four winning students were judged based on their academic achievement and their community involvement, aligning with the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People” and Ocean Financials’ Catholic values. They also wrote essays discussing what the value and importance of “people helping people” in our society is and what it meant to them personally.

The four winning students are:

  • Kailly Nocera will graduate from Seaford High School in Seaford, NY. Nocera plans to attend the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. “I am very invested in my community and use every opportunity I have to help out – whether that be cleaning up parks or providing a shoulder to lean on.”
  • Julia Cronan will graduate from Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset, NY. Cronan plans to attend Alvernia University in Reading, PA. “As a student who has attended Catholic School my whole life, and will attend a Catholic college, the values and beliefs of my faith are a defining part of my character. And this scholarship combines the other priority I have which is saving for my future and my education. “
  • Katherine Tirino will graduate from Massapequa High School in Massapequa, NY. Tirino plans to attend Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT. “Throughout my high school career, I have taken 10 AP courses, achieved a GPA of 99.25, and an SAT score of 1430. I have played multiple sports including basketball, lacrosse, track and field, and I joined my school’s flag football team for their inaugural season…Finally, I have participated in several clubs at my school including the buddies club, asthma and allergy awareness club, spanish club, and many more as I have fulfilled leadership positions during my junior and senior year.”
  • Thomas Cesiro will graduate from Oceanside High School in Oceanside, NY. Cesiro plans to attend Nassau Community College in Garden City, NY. “My life has been centered around giving to those in need and my future plan will continue that ideal through college and my entire life. My dreams have always been to be an inventor to create something with my knowledge and love of math and science that will help the world be a safer and better place to live.”
