Employees of Ocean Financial Federal Credit Union (OFFCU) delivered boxes of donated food and personal items to the St. Raymond’s Parish Food Bank here today, to assist the families of the south shore community served by OFFCU for this year’s Thanksgiving and Holliday seasons.
Every year, OFFCU collects non-perishable food, household and personal care items for donation to local Catholic Parishes across its South Shore service area. Donations were accepted in OFFCU branch lobbies in Seaford and Oceanside, as well as at drive-up windows, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have always had a vested interest in the health and welfare of our community and the people in it,” said Joe Tedesco, President & CEO of OFFCU. “Perhaps more than any other year in recent memory, it’s important that we help those who are less fortunate or who maybe have fallen on hard times in the wake of the pandemic. By lifting up those who need it, we elevate everyone.”
The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing lockdown have had a particularly hard impact on those most vulnerable, with people losing jobs, becoming ill or having to sacrifice to care for a loved one. The donations will be available to the general public to help create a Thanksgiving respite.
This year, many food pantries on Long Island have reported increases in the number of people seeking their help — some for the first time — as people have become unemployed or furloughed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
