Join the #SavingEliza campaign by challenging one another and members
COLUMBUS, OH (September 17, 2014) -- Credit unions across Ohio are challenging each other to #Sing2Lines for #SavingEliza, a social media campaign started by the parents of Eliza O’Neill as they race to fund the cure for Sanfilippo Syndrome, a terminal illness that affects 2,000 children.
Researchers at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus have discovered a breakthrough treatment that can stop the disease and give Eliza and others with the disease a chance at life. All that’s needed is funding for the clinical trial. The O’Neills and www.SavingEliza.com have already raised $1.1 million, a record for GoFundMe.com. At present, another $700,000 is needed and that’s where credit unions are stepping in.
The O’Neills created a viral challenge, #Sing2Lines for #SavingEliza. As home of the cure, Ohio’s credit unions are stepping up to help perpetuate the challenge so it reaches its fundraising goal, as well as support the life-saving research being done by fellow Ohioans.
By participating in the viral campaign, credit unions are challenging one another to sing two lines from any song, post it on Facebook, and challenge five others to do the same or donate to the 501(c)3 created by the O’Neills to fund manufacturing of the cure and clinical trials. The following credit unions have already participated:
- AurGroup Financial CU, Fairfield, OH – challenged its members and five other local credit unions; made a $500 donation
- Chaco CU, Hamilton, OH – challenged three other local credit unions; encouraged all fans to donate
- Firefighters Community CU, Cuyahoga Heights, OH – encouraged its community to learn more about the cause
- KEMBA Financial CU, Gahanna, OH – challenged three of its Select Employer Group partners, including Sunny95 FM; is making a donation
- Ohio HealthCare FCU, Dublin, OH – challenged its branch locations and two local credit unions; hosting collections at its branches
- Sharefax CU, Batavia, OH – branch locations are circulating the challenge amongst themselves and asking members to donate
- Atomic CU, in Piketon, OH – will be posting its challenge video later this week
“Children have always been near and dear to credit unions’ hearts, and the Movement is a long-time supporter of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals,” said League President Paul Mercer. “Helping spread the #Sing2Lines challenge for #SavingEliza, which will benefit children around the world, is just another example of credit unions living their philosophy of People Helping People.”
