On Path Federal Credit Union hosted its first community Shred Day with the help of Iron Mountain and volunteers at its Westwego Branch located at 1554 Westbank Expressway. Approximately 100 people attended the event on Saturday, May 15, 2021, where over 3,700 pounds of confidential, personal, and business documents were shredded.
Individuals could bring up to two large garbage bags of unwanted documents, that included sensitive information. Considering COVID health and safety guidelines, the credit union offered a contactless, drive up option for individuals wishing to remain in their vehicles. "As one of our many efforts to be financial advocates for our members, we hosted shred day to give individuals the opportunity to discard sensitive documents safely and securely to better guard them against identity theft," says Candace Washington, Vice President of Member Engagement.
Shred Day is one of the many ways the credit union has honored its 60th year anniversary this year. In January 2021, the credit union distributed $25 gas cards to lucky winners via social media. In February, lucky members who opened a savings or checking account won an Instant Vortex Air Fryer Oven worth $199 and an Amazon Firestick/Echo Bundle. Currently, the credit union is hosting an XBOX Series X giveaway to help promote youth savings, smart spending, and financial education.
"Our focus since our incorporation as ASI Federal Credit Union in 1961 has always been to give back to our members and the community as much as possible," states Washington. "Our 60th year is about returning to our roots and reminding folks that we are in their corner when it comes to finances. Our events and giveaways are only a small token of thanks to those who have trusted us as their financial advocates since 1961".
