Oregon Community Credit Union hosts Sixth Annual Shred Fest

EUGENE, OR (May 12, 2014) -- In 2013, Statistic Brain reported that some 11 million Americans have their identities stolen and are victims of fraud each year. Financial losses tied to identity theft have been estimated north of $21 billion.  Some of the basic tactics of identity theft remain dumpster diving for personal documents and stealing mail.  Keep your personal information personal by shredding private documents at Oregon Community Credit Union’s “Shred Fest,” hosted this year on Saturday, May 17th from 10 AM – 2 PM.  This free event, open to the public, will offer on-the-spot shredding by Access Information Management at two different OCCU locations:

-       Corporate Office, 2880 Chad Dr., Eugene, OR
-       Across the street from the Mohawk Branch, in the Albertsons parking lot, 2000 Marcola Rd., Springfield, OR

Community members are invited to bring up to six boxes of sensitive papers or documents that contain personal information such as social security numbers, account numbers, tax information, cancelled checks, credit card and ATM receipts, unwanted credit card offers, junk mail, old medical or insurance records, tax returns, or old receipts and bills.  Putting sensitive information into trash or recycling containers is not a secure method of disposal. Shredding sensitive papers helps fight fraud and prevent identity theft.

Additional information about the event can be found on Oregon Community’s website (oregoncommunitycu.org) or through the Oregon Community Credit Union Facebook page.
