Eugene, Ore. – Oregon Community Credit Union celebrated Youth Savings Week April 22-28 to promote the importance of saving and financial literacy. The heroic theme of “Be a credit union super saver!” allowed for fun and creativity. Oregon Community branches went above and beyond in decorating the branches, holding prize drawings and making every child’s experience extra special. Here are some highlights of all the festivities from this year’s celebration:
Thurston and Santa Clara Branches visit Local Elementary Schools
Employees from the Thurston and Santa Clara branches visited Thurston and Corridor elementary schools to teach several classes about the importance of saving. Students brainstormed things they need or would like to have in the future and ways to save up their money to purchase them. Younger students learned money basics through story-telling and designing their own penny. Oregon Community employees also provided goody bags for the students and teachers.
Coburg Branch Helps Boy Scout Troops Earn Badge
The Coburg branch invited several Boy Scout troops to the branch for a tour and other fun activities, earning the scouts a badge. The branch also ran coloring contests all month, gave out gift bags, cookies and double Lucky Duck bucks all week.
Salem Branch Invites Homeschooled Children to Branch
The Salem Branch provided a branch tour to kids who are homeschooled, up to middle school age. Snacks were provided during tours and tour guides were dressed up as superheroes.
General activities at other branches included contests, giving out OCCU piggy banks, prizes, double Lucky Duck bucks and a lot of sweet treats.
