Oversight of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
WASHINGTON, DC (March 22, 2016) —
Dear Chairman Walden and Ranking Member Eshoo:
On behalf of the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU), the only trade association exclusively representing the federal interests of our nation’s federally-insured credit unions, I write today in conjunction with tomorrow’s oversight hearing of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to share with you our comment letters to the FCC outlining credit union concerns with the Commission’s recent Declaratory Ruling and Order on the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).
As outlined in the letters, NAFCU appreciates the FCC’s effort to clarify and modernize its regulations. However, we believe that the FCC has hindered the ability of consumers to receive important notifications and timely updates about financial developments that will impact their existing accounts, on both mobile and residential phone lines. Unfortunately, the FCC’s Order will make it more difficult for credit unions and other financial institutions to contact their members about identity theft or data breaches. We have urged the Commission to reconsider its action in regards to credit unions.
It is with this in mind that I ask you to review the attached letters and raise these concerns with the FCC Commissioners in your oversight capacity. We ask you to urge the Commissioners to reconsider their recent action due to the negative impact it stands to have on credit unions. Thank you for your attention to this matter. If my colleagues or I can be of assistance to you, or if you have any questions regarding this issue, please feel free to contact me or NAFCU’s Associate Director of Legislative Affairs, Chad Adams, at (703) 842-2265.
Sincerely,
Brad Thaler
Vice President of Legislative Affairs
