Patsy Van Ouwerkerk honored with CO-OP Founders Award

Mitchell Stankovic and Associates Consultant recognized for cooperative leadership

BOULDER CITY, NV (June 12, 2019) — Patsy Van Ouwerkerk, retired CEO of Travis Credit Union and current consultant with Mitchell, Stankovic and Associates, was honored with the Founders Award from CO-OP Financial Services during the cooperative’s THINK 19 Conference.

The Founders Award is given to an individual who served on the CO- OP Financial Services board for a minimum of six years, is seen as a leader and supporter of the credit union community through their involvement in activities and initiatives, and who holds a distinguished and dignified status among credit unions.

“I am honored to receive this award and to be recognized for the small part I played in the success of CO-OP Financial Services,” Van Ouwerkerk said. “I am particularly proud to be acknowledged for my efforts to promote diversity while serving on the CO-OP Board and throughout a career that spans more than four decades. I believe it’s my responsibility to give back to an industry that has provided me with so much opportunity.” Before presenting the award at CO-OP’s Annual Shareholders meeting, held during THINK 19, Allan McMorris, Chairman of CO-OP’s Board of Directors, recapped Van Ouwerkerk’s illustrious career. McMorris explained that when she became President/CEO of Travis Credit Union in 2002, Patsy was only the fourth woman in the United States to lead a billion-dollar credit union.

He continued, “Patsy was a real pioneer as a female executive in the credit union industry. The growing number of women President/CEOs owe her a debt as diversity is so important to the success of the movement.”

CO-OP President/CEO Todd Clark commented, “The credit union community, and especially CO- OP Financial Services, has truly had an advocate for the advancement of credit unions, cooperation and women. We can’t thank Patsy enough for all she has done.”

Van Ouwerkerk retired after 39 years in the credit union community and remains active as a consultant with Mitchell, Stankovic & Associates. Her areas of specialization include strategic planning, board governance, leadership development, communications and team-building. She served as CEO of Travis Credit Union from 2002 through 2014, Alliance Credit Union from 1998 through 2002, and Columbia Credit Union from 1993 through 1998. Van Ouwerkerk also has served on numerous state and national credit union and non-profit boards of directors and chaired many.
