PENSACOLA, Fla. – June 2, 2011 – Local weekly newspaper The Independent News has announced that Pen Air Federal Credit Union President and CEO Ron Fields, has been selected for its 2011 Power List.

“I’m truly honored to have received this recognition and hope this serves as inspiration for other businesses to step up and be active in their community,” Fields said.

Independent News publisher Rick Outzen said a committee takes the publicly-nominated individuals and selects 100 of the most influential for the list. This is the fifth year Independent News has published the Power List.

“Those selected are the business leaders that have done a lot for the community, and strive to make Pensacola a better place to live” Outzen said.

Fields first came to Pen Air FCU in 2001 as the Chief Financial Officer, and was promoted to President/CEO in 2009. He displays his leadership and philanthropic attributes in many ways, including service as the current President of the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce, as an active member of the Credit Union Executive Society, as a board member for the Santa Rosa Chapter of the Navy League, and as the team captain for the Pensacola Relay for Life.  Fields was also named the 2008 Pace Area Chamber of Commerce’s “Man of the Year” for his efforts to improve the local community. Since he became President/CEO, Pen Air FCU has been named the 2010 Business of the Year by the Gulf Breeze Chamber of Commerce, received the Dora Maxwell Award for social responsibility, and the 2011 Louis Herring Award for financial education in the community.

Pen Air FCU has more than 100,000 members and 1,000 employee groups that it serves. The credit union has more than $1 billion in assets and, in June 2011, earned the BauerFinancial 5-Star Superior rating for the 82nd consecutive quarter. This year, 2011, marks Pen Air FCU’s 75th anniversary.  Pen Air FCU is a not-for-profit, member-owned financial institution chartered in 1936 to serve civil service and military employees assigned to our military bases in the area, as well as their immediate families.  Headquartered in Pensacola, Fla., Pen Air FCU is the largest locally-based financial institution in the area and now serves many other employee groups, with 15 branches in Northwest Florida and Southwest Alabama.
