PENSACOLA, Fla. – January 25, 2012 – In response to the recent and devastating storms that shook Alabama and other surrounding states, Pen Air Federal Credit Union is loaning its mobile service center (MSC) to Secure First Credit Union in Birmingham, Ala so that they may continue to operate and service members.
Pen Air FCU is lending one of its two MSCs to Secure First for branch operations so members and local residents will have access to funds while the tornado-damaged office is repaired. The Mobile Service Center accommodates space for two teller windows, two member service areas, one ATM, and offers handicap accessibility. The Mobile Service Center recently returned from use by Community Credit Union after their natural disaster back in early 2011. Pen Air FCU is more than happy to step up to the plate again to assist a fellow Credit Union in need.
An early Monday morning tornado ripped the roof off of Secure First CU Birmingham branch, causing damage in several areas of the credit union, which is estimated to take eight weeks to repair. The 10,700-member, 21-employee Secure First has two other Birmingham offices that were not affected.
“We did this before last April to help out that credit union in Rainsville hit hard then by the tornadoes, and we’re glad now to assist Secure First,” said Pen Air FCU Chief Operations Officer and Executive Vice President of Carroll Scarborough. “We are all about member service and continuing the cooperative spirit that differentiates Credit Unions from other financial institutions.”
Pen Air FCU is a not-for-profit, member-owned financial institution originally chartered in 1936 to serve civil service and military employees assigned to our military bases in the area, as well as their immediate families. With $1.1 billion in assets, Pen Air FCU is the largest locally-based financial institution in the area and now serves many other employee groups. It has 19 branches in Northwest Florida and Southwest Alabama, including four student-run branches at area high schools.
