Pen Air Federal Credit Union awards $6000 in college grants

PENSACOLA, FL (July 6, 2016) — Pen Air Federal Credit Union awarded six deserving high school seniors with $1,000.00 grants to help pay for their next step in their life: college. The grants were announced during the high school’s Senior Awards Night.

“Pen Air understands the financial burden that enrolling in college can put on families, so we offer this annual college grant program that is open to both members and non-members,” comments Stu Ramsey, president/CEO of Pen Air FCU. “We also offer a separate internal grant application for employees with graduating high school seniors in their immediate family.”

The winners were selected based on grades, essay, volunteerism and other factors. Applications were made available in early January on the Pen Air web site at www.penair.org, Pen Air offices, and through local high school guidance offices. Announcements for the college grant application were made through Pen Air’s member newsletter as well as social media and local media outlets which resulted in an overwhelming response.

“Making the selection is never easy because there are so many hardworking and deserving students. However, once the winners are selected and contact is made, we send the grant checks directly to the colleges in the student’s name so that funds can be used immediately by the student,” remarks Patty Veal, Director of Public Relations for Pen Air.
