PenFed celebrates first Nebraska branch
State, local and military leaders turn out for official launch in Papillion
TYSONS, VA (August 23, 2016) — PenFed Credit Union has been helping Greater Omaha Do Better for almost 25 years, and is now adding local branches to offer hometown service and advice for its members. With over 500 local employees and more than 10,000 local members throughout the Greater Omaha area, PenFed is proud to open its first full-service branch in the state of Nebraska.
PenFed’s Chairman of the Board of Directors Ed Cody, Vice Chairman Bruce Kasold and President and CEO James Schenck hosted a ceremonial ribbon-cutting and welcomed a congressional delegation and community leaders during the grand opening. Area business leaders and military officials also joined PenFed for the event.
The $20 billion credit union has operated locally since 1992. The inaugural Papillion branch will feature the full array of PenFed’s services and a state of the art facility. PenFed serves 1.4 million members worldwide.
“This grand opening ceremony for our new branch here in Papillion is a great way to connect with members on a personal level,” Schenck said. “It also gives us the opportunity to express our appreciation for having had the honor of being a part of this wonderful community for nearly 25 years.”
During the event, PenFed officials also presented thousands of dollars in donations to local charities during their grand opening ceremony. A total of $18,000 was presented to American Legion Post 339, the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home, the Offutt Air Force Base Top 3 Association, and Papillion-La Vista School Foundation. The first three donations represented proceeds from PenFed’s first Omaha golf tournament hosted by the credit union’s charitable arm, the PenFed Foundation, in order to benefit military community members and the organizations that support them.
Cody explained the role of the credit union’s non-profit organization. He said, “The PenFed Foundation was established in 2001 to fill gaps in the government services available to our service members, veterans, their families and caregivers. PenFed’s roots are in the defense community. Our relationship with our nation’s defenders is indeed special, and we are honored to serve them.”
Schenck noted, “While serving the military is a time-honored tradition at PenFed, military service is not required in order to join. As such, we’re able to offer a wonderful suite of products and services to a very diverse field of membership.”
“We know that people have many options when it comes to financial service providers. We believe what we have to offer: market-leading products, a workforce committed to excellence, low loan rates, high dividend yields and more—sets us apart from the rest. Our whole purpose is to help our members do better financially, and they can count on PenFed to always be a caring, engaged and involved community leader,” said Schenck.
U.S. Congressman Brad Ashford, who represents Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District concluded, “We thank PenFed for their 25 years of investment in our community.”
