Pennsylvania Credit Union Foundation announces stellar year for Financial Reality Fairs – nearly 6,000 students reached
HARRISBURG, PA (June 29, 2016) — The Pennsylvania Credit Union Foundation (the Foundation) is pleased to announce that Pennsylvania has recorded a record-breaking year for financial education throughout the state. During the 2015-2016 school year, there were 41 Financial Reality Fairs held for 46 distinct schools around Pennsylvania. This is all thanks to the support of the 92 individual credit unions that have hosted a Financial Reality Fair and 986 volunteers who have helped run the events. These efforts have enabled 5,973 students to receive a one-of-a-kind learning experience in personal finance.
Fourteen other Financial Reality Fairs are scheduled for 2016, with more being planned daily. Since 2011, the Foundation has supported 91 Financial Reality Fairs, reaching over 14,700 students in Pennsylvania.
“The growing number of Financial Reality Fairs is a testament to the quality and positive impact of the program. As more schools sign on, a ripple effect is taking place,” said Kathleen Fey, Executive Director of the Foundation. “Financial Reality Fairs give students a hands-on experience with personal finance that they may not otherwise have.”
“Financial Reality Fairs are just another way that Pennsylvania’s credit unions show our commitment to the ‘People Helping People’ philosophy,” said Patrick Conway, President & CEO of the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association. “Thank you to everyone who has volunteered or helped to sponsor these events.”
