On May 5, in an effort to help celebrate 90 years of community involvement and service, People Driven Credit Union (PDCU) — a member-owned, full-service financial institution — partnered with Sara’s House for the annual community baby shower. This event was meant to uplift and encourage homeless and low-income teens and women. PDCU staff collected donations of gifts and cash for the event. Kept as an internal project, all five branches of PDCU participated in the event.
PDCU staff donated gifts, $100 and three gift cards. Items collected for babies included diapers, wipes, bottles, lotions, burping cloths, blankets, pacifiers, onesies’ and baby outfits. Some of the gifts were also for mothers and included breast pads, deodorant, lotions, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and bath and body shower gels.
“As a community-driven organization, we pride ourselves on being there for our community. When we heard of the opportunity to get involved and help make a difference in these young women and their children’s lives, we couldn’t resist but to step up and do our part,” said Renee' DeMarco, president and CEO of PDCU.
During the Annual Baby Shower event, Sara’s House and their partners provide each mother with a donation of car seats, strollers, diaper bags filled with diapers, wipes, bottles, lotion, baby powder and outfits Each mother also took home a gift bag prepared especially for them. Lunch and workshops are included for all participants to round out the event. Workshop topics included: financial literacy, resume writing, vision boards/goal setting techniques, parenting classes and several guest speakers. PDCU believes in the importance of giving back to the community and is proud to participate in initiatives that better the families that reside in them.
