PFCU educates aging adults about protecting against financial fraud

Philadelphia Federal Credit Union’s Erin Ellis helps individuals 55+ protect themselves against financial scams

PHILADELPHIA, PA (June 29, 2018) — While the golden years should be carefree, senior citizens are increasingly becoming the targets of scammers. To better equip seniors with the necessary skills to protect themselves against financial scams, Erin Ellis, Accredited Financial Counselor at Philadelphia Federal Credit Union (PFCU), presented a seminar on scams, fraud and online security at Center in the Park, a non-profit organization in Northwest Philadelphia that promotes positive aging and fosters community connections, on Friday, June 15.

Over 70 seniors participated in the most recent installation of the day-long series, Balancing Dollars and $en$e. The free workshop provides individuals 55+ with housing and financial tips to succeed later in life. Sessions include interactive workshops on managing money, investments, cyber security, entrepreneurship and personal business, community involvement, housing, rentals and reverse mortgages. Ellis participates in the financial seminars on an ongoing basis.

“As part of my role as a financial educator, it is my responsibility to educate individuals on how to better manage money—and this includes how to protect their money. Seniors are often the targets of financial scammers, but with the proper tools and knowledge, they can better identify scams and fraud and protect their wallets,” said Ellis.

PFCU is a member-owned institution that invests profits back into the community. To learn more about PFCU’s mission, services and upcoming events, visit pfcu.com.
