Philadelphia Federal Credit Union Wins Third Prize in City Gardens Contest

Philadelphia, PA, September 20, 2011- For the third consecutive year, Philadelphia Federal Credit Union was named a winner in the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s City Gardens Contest.
This year, PFCU was awarded third prize in the “Urban Farm” category, which is reserved for groups that donate a portion of their crops to a local community or food cupboard. PFCU has donated its produce and the proceeds from crops purchased by employees, to Aid For Friends Frail Elderly Outreach Center for three years.
The PFCU Garden Project was created in 2007 as a multi-purpose venture, promoting team-building, nutrition and giving back to the community. Each department at PFCU’s Operations Center is responsible for growing and maintaining a garden plot throughout the season, which resulted in a wide range of crops this year, including corn and lemons.
PFCU was invited to attend an Awards Ceremony that will be held on September 24, 2011 in conjunction with the Horticultural Society Fall Garden Festival at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Here, winners will be recognized for their efforts to enhance the city’s green initiative.
Aid For Friends serves needy, isolated shut-ins, primarily the frail elderly, in the Greater Philadelphia area, with free daily home-cooked meals delivered weekly by volunteers, and also to provide shut-ins with free outreach services.
