Premier Members Credit Union announces scholarship recipients

Premier Members awards $35,000 to support youth pursuing higher education

BOULDER, CO (August 1, 2018) — For three high school youth perusing higher education, paying for their education just got a little easier. Premier Members Credit Union (PMCU) recognized Hailey Johnson, Ryan Chiem and Adam Kiehl as the 2018 recipients of the Premier Members Scholarship. Recipients were selected based on grade point average, personal and academic achievements, financial need and more.

Hailey Johnson, a graduate of Highline High School in Longmont, is the co-developer of a “Hug” vest for use with autistic children. The vest, inspired by Johnson’s work with autistic youth, creates a calming effect for those with autism and sensory challenges. Johnson is pursuing a degree in Biology and Pre-Med from Colorado Mesa University. She enjoys playing softball in her free time.

Ryan Chiem is an entrepreneur and a business owner. He has been a member and a Student Intern at PMCU for two years, creating a PMCU-sponsored Financial Literacy Club at Fairview High School, from which he has recently graduated. His business, MVP Finance, was founded with the goal to drive financial education and tout the benefits of credit union membership to high school youth. Chiem will attend University of California Berkley Haas School of Business in the fall as a Business major.

Adam Kiehl is the 2018 Premier Members Impact on Education Scholarship winner. Kiehl served as the Classic Film Club Curator at his high school, Peak to Peak Charter School. He was the winner of Peak to Peak’s Investment Club Simulation, and spent much of his high school years as a PAC Leader, and Academic Peer Tutor. He also served as a mentor to middle school students through Summer Math Camps, Courage Retreats and student presentations, as well as a youth swim instructor and youth athletics assistant coach. He has been honored as a National Merit Finalist, Peak to Peak Scholar with Distinction Award for Leadership, essay winner for the Anti-Defamation League, and many more. Kiehl will attend Colorado State University Fort Collins in the fall.

“We are honored to reward these accomplished students with the scholarship,” said Jason Bauer, PMCU’s Chief Marketing Officer. “We are excited to support this year’s deserving recipients with their higher education.”

PMCU rewards $35,000 annually to high school seniors pursuing higher education as part of their Premier Scholarship Program. In addition to the Premier Members Scholarship and Premier Members Impact on Education Scholarship, PMCU rewards an additional $20,000 in scholarships to youth-based charities including: I Have a Dream of Foundation of Boulder County, Westminster Public Schools Foundation, Arvada Wheat Ridge Service Ambassadors for Youth and a four-year scholarship to Realities for Children of Boulder County. Applications for the Premier Scholarship are accepted January 1st thru mid-May each year.
