Des Moines, Iowa – The annual Iowa Credit Union Convention, themed “Connect,” will take place in Des Moines at the Polk County Convention Complex (501 Grand Ave) September 14-16. More than 300 credit union CEOs, directors, other executive staff, guests and vendors are expected to attend this year’s conference focusing on advancing credit union growth and vitality.
2012 Republican Presidential Candidate, Texas Governor Rick Perry, will be speaking at the Iowa Credit Union Convention (#IACUConv) on Friday, September 16 from 12:15-12:45 p.m. Governor Perry will share his thoughts on credit unions, the economy, and will also take questions from Iowa credit union attendees. Governor Perry’s address will be broadcast on UStream at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/iowa-credit-union-league.

Aaron Thomas, son of the late Ed Thomas of Parkersburg, will be the closing keynote speaker on Friday. He’ll share his family’s story and show the audience how to deal with adversity, set important goals and live a meaningful life of passion. Thomas’ book, “The Sacred Acre – The Ed Thomas Story,” reached #29 on the New York Times Best Seller List this week.
Thirteen diverse education sessions are planned for the 2011 Convention. Speakers will provide insights into how to prepare for a crisis, marketing and business development, what effects the economy has on credit unions, and compliance updates geared toward directors among others.
Attendees will enjoy an evening reception being held at the Iowa State Historical Building on Wednesday evening. On Thursday night, credit union attendees will relax during the Iowa Credit Union Foundation’s (ICUF) annual Benefit Night. All proceeds will be used to fulfill ICUF’s mission of helping Iowans build wealth, responsibility and independence.
