PSCU advocates for credit union industry as co-lead sponsor of Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run®

CUSO laces up in support of credit unions across the country and Children’s Miracle Network

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (March 12, 2019) — Employees from PSCU, the nation’s premier payments credit union service organization (CUSO), will run alongside credit unions, industry partners, volunteers and members of Congress in Washington, D.C., on April 7 during the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run®. The annual event is instrumental in showcasing the value of the credit union community and the credit union movement at a local level. Credit unions throughout the U.S. proudly join together each year as the title sponsor of the event, which benefits the Children’s Miracle Network.

With new members of Congress taking office this year following the 2018 midterm elections, now is a more critical time than ever for credit union awareness and advocacy. Credit unions can earn a spot on the legislative agenda by assembling the power and voices of the national trade associations and state leagues, addressing public policy issues and blanketing Capitol Hill with the credit union message. One of the most visible ways credit unions throughout the country bring awareness to the important role they play in their communities is through the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run®.

Credit union volunteers provide the manpower behind the annual event, while financial donations from credit unions go directly to the millions of children who enter a Children’s Hospital annually for treatment. For the 12th year, PSCU is underwriting the title sponsorship expenses for the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run® along with CUNA Mutual Group. This co-sponsorship allows the organizations to underwrite title sponsorship expenses for the event, ultimately enhancing ground-breaking medical research and services at the 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals nationwide. At the culmination of this year’s race, Credit Union Miracle Day is projected to have raised over $9 million for the international non-profit since 2002. Nationwide, credit unions are the third largest fundraisers for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

“The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run® provides us with the valuable opportunity to stand atop Capitol Hill each year to showcase the importance and impact of credit unions across the country to D.C.-area influencers,” said Chuck Fagan, PSCU President and CEO. “In addition, we are also able to raise funds towards medical research to help our local communities and really embrace the credit union philosophy of ‘people helping people.’”

The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run® complements the active lobbying efforts of the CUNA and NAFCU trade associations. Capitol Hill staffers are among the thousands of runners each year, providing them with a chance to witness firsthand the community service and volunteer efforts credit unions make nationwide.

PSCU proudly sends runners to the event each year to take part in the excitement and challenge of the competition. The teams are comprised of employees from all PSCU locations, selected in a company-wide lottery. This year’s team will be competing as the PSCU Possibilities Delivered race team.
