Washington, D.C. – (March 30, 2012) – PSCU CEO Michael Kelly spoke at the press event held today to publicize the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run® being held Sunday, April 1, in Washington, D.C. PSCU is the lead business partner for the event, which has generated over $5 million in donations to Children’s Miracle Network since the credit union industry began sponsorship of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Run 11 years ago.
“PSCU underwrites this event because the donations it produces help needy children in communities across the country obtain much-needed medical care,” said Michael Kelly, PSCU’s President and CEO. “The run simultaneously builds awareness for credit unions’ leadership in delivering consumer-friendly financial services among influential legislators and decision-makers during a time of unprecedented legislation and regulation of the financial industry.”
Each credit union’s contributions are returned to local CMN hospitals in their community. Children’s Miracle Network hospitals treat more than 17 million critically ill children every year.
The 2011 Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run generated over $500,000 in donations and involved dozens of credit unions and CUSOs representing all 50 states. More than 7,000 credit union members participate as runners and over 500 credit union volunteers participate in this event that attracts runners from across the globe. Credit union members and staff can donate directly to children’s hospitals using the race’s online giving site www.cucherryblossomfundraising.org.
