PSECU awards $48,000 in scholarships to high school seniors

HARRISBURG, PA (June 20, 2024) — PSECU, Pennsylvania’s digital-first credit union, today announced its 28th annual scholarship program winners. This year, the program is awarding six scholarships – valued up to $8,000 each for a total of $48,000 – to graduating high school seniors in the states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and North Carolina to reduce the financial burden of pursuing postsecondary education. Winners are selected based on academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and critical thinking and writing skills.

“Education is the cornerstone of PSECU’s community engagement initiatives,” stated Karen Rousche, Community Engagement Program Manager at PSECU. “Since 1997, our scholarship program has awarded $1,224,000 to 162 students, helping to shape our future leaders. We are deeply committed to assisting students in achieving their academic and professional goals by providing these vital funds.”

From the more than 720 applications PSECU received this year, the following winners were selected:

PSECU Scholarships:

  • Zion Herring, Collingswood High School, Collingswood, NJ
    • Attending The College of William & Mary
  • Kari Leventopoulos, Collingswood High School, Collingswood, NJ
    • Attending Duquesne University
  • Christopher George, Schuylkill Haven Area High School, Schuylkill Haven, PA
    • Attending Kutztown University

PSECU John J. Marisic Memorial Scholarship:

  • Lena Bird, South Mecklenburg High School, Charlotte, NC
    • Attending Dartmouth College

PSECU Michael A. Gottshall Memorial Scholarship:

  • Benjamin Snyder, Boiling Springs High School, Boiling Springs, PA
    • Attending Liberty University

PSECU Frank J. Breiner Memorial Scholarship:

  • Thrisha Kalpatthi, North Allegheny Senior High School, Wexford, PA
    • Attending The Pennsylvania State University – University Park

If scholarship requirements are met, including maintaining a minimum GPA, the winners will receive a $2,000 scholarship every year over the next four years for a total scholarship value of $8,000 per student.
