Raiz Federal Credit Union celebrates 90 years of service

New “What Are You Rooted In?” Campaign Spotlights Members and Community Roots

El Paso, TX (June 4, 2026) |

In a major milestone for the region’s financial sector, Raiz Federal Credit Union today announced the launch of a year-long 90th-anniversary celebration, underscoring its pivotal role in shaping the economic and social fabric of El Paso over the past 9 decades.

Founded in 1936 as El Paso Teachers Federal Credit Union, the organization has spent nine decades helping individuals and families achieve greater financial security. While the name has evolved over the years, from El Paso Area Teachers Federal Credit Union to Teachers Federal Credit Union (TFCU), and now Raiz Federal Credit Union, the mission has remained the same: empowering people, strengthening communities, and helping members thrive.

The anniversary celebration officially launches the “What Are You Rooted In?” campaign, a year-long initiative spotlighting stories from Raiz members and community partners. Honoring Raiz’s roots as a credit union founded by seven local educators and its evolution into a community pillar, the campaign highlights members’ experiences, values, and dreams. Rooted in the meaning of the Raiz name, the campaign aims to inspire conversation about the credit union’s enduring legacy and what lies ahead.

Through the campaign, members share what keeps them rooted, including family, faith, personal growth, long-term goals, education, community, and creating a lasting legacy for generations to come.

“For 90 years, our members have been at the heart of everything we do,” said Raiz Federal Credit Union President and CEO Max Villaronga. “The anniversary celebrates our history and the people who have shaped it and continue to inspire what comes next. Our members, employees, and community partners are the reason Raiz has remained strong for nine decades, and we’re honored to celebrate this milestone alongside them.”

Throughout the year, Raiz will connect with El Paso by hosting community events, highlighting member stories, delivering educational programs, and establishing strategic partnerships with leading local organizations. These initiatives will provide many opportunities for community members to get involved and share their stories.

“As we celebrate this milestone, we’re inviting our community to be part of the story,” said Raiz Vice President of Marketing Alejandro Yu. “Every member has a reason for being rooted here, and every story is unique. We look forward to honoring those stories throughout the year.”

Community members are encouraged to learn more about the anniversary celebration and share their stories at www.raiz.us/90years.

As Raiz enters its 90th year, the credit union reaffirms its founding values—service, opportunity, financial empowerment, and community—that have made it a cornerstone of the Borderland’s economic growth and stability.
