Raiz Federal Credit Union launches “Golden Coin” initiative to promote Youth Financial Literacy Month in El Paso

El Paso, TX (April 2, 2026) |

In recognition of Financial Literacy Month, Raiz Federal Credit Union is introducing a new initiative to help young members build strong financial habits early and address a growing need for accessible financial education among youth.

Raiz is supporting Financial Literacy Month by creating a fun, hands-on savings experience for young members. Through simple tools like take-home piggy banks and interactive learning resources, families are introduced to foundational concepts like saving, budgeting, and building responsible money habits early. As part of this experience, some piggy banks include a special “golden coin” designed to spark curiosity and make learning about saving more fun and memorable for children.

Programs like this are especially important as families seek practical ways to teach saving habits early and build long-term financial confidence. The National Credit Union Foundation highlights the role of credit unions in addressing persistent gaps in financial education and improving financial well‑being through community‑based efforts. Resources like those provided by Raiz help address this need by offering accessible, real-world tools that support families in building strong financial habits from a young age.

Along with in-branch experiences, youth members will have access to free, online interactive financial education courses that are designed to strengthen real-world saving habits. These tools assist families in taking practical steps to understand money in a way that is both accessible and easy to implement.

Starting April 1st, families opening a Raiz Youth Savings Account will get a free piggy bank as part of a fun, interactive savings experience. A limited number of these piggy banks will feature a hidden “golden coin” worth $100, creating an exciting moment that encourages children to start saving. Additionally, young members can earn a $25 bonus when they save $100 in their youth savings account.

“At Raiz, we believe financial confidence starts early,” said Max Villaronga, President and CEO of Raiz Federal Credit Union. “By creating experiences that are both engaging and educational, we are helping families introduce important financial concepts in a way that feels natural and meaningful.”

Through these compelling programs, Raiz remains committed to investing in its community’s financial well-being by making education accessible, practical, and relevant for families at every stage of life.

Disclaimer: The “golden coin” is a promotional item and does not contain real gold. Members who find a golden coin will be awarded a $100-dollar deposit into their youth savings account.
