Randolph Elliott ShaGolf Weekend ~ Making a Weekend of It

Georgetown, SC – Whether you prefer golf shoes or dancing shoes, fairways or dance floors, this weekend has something for everyone. The 1st ever ShaGolf Weekend will be held September 28-29 at Wedgefield Plantation. The fundraiser, held in memory of long-time Georgetown family man, business man and community friend Randolph Elliott. Elliott passed away in January 2012 but left a strong presence through his dedication to his family, his church and the Georgetown community. Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit a continuing education scholarship in his name.

Start the weekend off on Friday night Shagging the Night Away to the Craig Woolard Band. Tickets are $25 per person (in advance) and $30 per person (at door).  Doors open at 7pm and dancing continues through 11pm. The evening will include heavy hors d’ouvres, dancing, an auction and cash bar. Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs to sit and relax between songs and catch up with friends. Tickets are available at the Ball & Que Restaurant, any GKCU location and Curry’s Cleaners.

Tee-off on Saturday for the “Louie’s Hole in One” Golf Tournament. With a shotgun start at 9am, the captain’s choice, 3-man team golf tournament will take golfers on the challenging but scenic Lowcountry course at Wedgefield. Teams can sign up for $180 (or $60 per individual golfers). Space is limited to the first 126 paid golfers. Prizes will be awarded for various placements and closest to pin and longest drive.

Sponsorship opportunities are also available if your business would like to participate. Levels range from $100-$500 and include various features for both the golf tournament and dance. Sponsorships can be made payable to the United Way where a designated fund has been established for the continuing education scholarship. “This is a wonderful way to recognize the life of such a giving man,” states Nikki Ewing, GKCU Marketing Director. Elliott served GKCU and its members most of his adult life, both as an employee and a volunteer on the Board of Directors. “He embodied the credit union spirit with his friendly personality, helpful nature and understanding attitude. We are so honored to share in this great weekend with his wife and family and give a way for the community to remember him with two activities he loved most: golf and dancing. We know these continuing education scholarships will help many in our community that are currently in school or wanting to go back to further their education. It’s exactly what Randolph would have wanted for his legacy.”

Elliott was a life-long resident of Georgetown, and dedicated husband, father and grandfather.  In addition to working at the credit union, he worked for a local funeral home and was a dedicated member of his church. He was also an active volunteer in the community with March of Dimes and United Way, as well as across the state on behalf of his affiliation with the credit union.  GKCU renamed their high school scholarships after Elliott after his retirement from the board last fall.
