Redwood Credit Union (RCU) recently participated in National Credit Union Youth Week, an annual event of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) to promote smart saving habits and money skills for children and teens. RCU’s Credit Union Youth Week activities included free seminars for kids, teens, and their families, a coloring contest, fun giveaways and informational handouts on smart money management at the Credit Union’s 15 branch locations. RCU’s Youth Account Members were also encouraged to make a deposit into their Youth Account during Youth Week for a chance to win $100 in the RCU Savings Challenge.
During Credit Union Youth Week, RCU welcomed more than 50 new youth Members to the cooperative, and took in more than 900 deposits into youth accounts, totaling over $211,000.
“Engaging young Members with fun opportunities like Credit Union Youth Week is the first step in helping them develop responsible money habits at a early age, which will benefit them for a lifetime,” said Lee Alderman, Assistant Vice President of Educational Development at RCU.
The RCU Youth Accounts program is divided into two groups: Jr. Rangers, for children through age 12, and Jr. Partners for teenagers 13-17. Both age groups receive dividends on the funds they save, a free gift when opening an RCU savings account, quarterly educational and fun newsletters, online account access, and access to fun online games, stories, blogs and educational content through CUNA’s Googolplex module at www.redwoodcu.org/youth.
