Redwood Credit Union helps more than 700 Marin residents securely shred confidential documents at free Shred-a-Thon

SANTA ROSA, CA (June 7, 2017) Redwood Credit Union (RCU) hosted a free document shredding event at Novato Community Hospital on Saturday, June 3, 2017. More than 700 local residents brought old financial documents and other confidential paperwork to be securely destroyed by Shred-IT, who provided shredding trucks on-site for the Credit Union’s annual Shred-a-Thon event.

“Shredding sensitive documents—such as old financial statements and bills—is one of the best precautions people can take against ID theft, so we were happy to once again provide this service to our Napa community,” said Richard De Ramon, RCU’s Novato Branch Manager. RCU also offered responsible e-waste disposal at the event through Conservation Corps North Bay, and collected nearly 6,000 lbs. of old electronics to be recycled.

In addition to the shredding service and e-waste collection, RCU also collected nearly $2,000 in monetary donations at the event to benefit SchoolsRule Marin, a coalition of 20 school foundations that helps fund literacy, technology and art programs for every public school student in Marin County, to provide a well-rounded education for all. RCU makes a donation to SchoolsRule every time a Marin resident makes a purchase using an RCU debit or credit card. Details of the program are available at www.redwoodcu.org/schoolsrule.

RCU will be holding additional Shred-a-Thons this summer in Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino Counties. To learn more, visit www.redwoodcu.org/shred.
