RCU Contributes Over $24,000 through Tri-County Human Race Events
SANTA ROSA, CA (May 13, 2014) -- Three teams of employees from Redwood Credit Union (RCU) recently participated in Human Race events held in Sonoma, Marin and Mendocino counties. A total of 130 volunteers from RCU, including employees, family and friends walked or ran in the races, raising funds for a variety of local nonprofits. In addition to voluntary support and the Credit Union’s corporate sponsorships, RCU staff collected monetary pledges and donations, bringing RCU’s collective contributions to over $24,000.
Sponsored by local volunteer centers, the Human Race invites participants to collect pledges and walk or run a 3K or 10K course to raise money for the local nonprofit of their choice. RCU's Ukiah Branch raised/donated $5,000 to the Mendocino County Human Race, which resulted in the RCU team being recognized as the highest fundraising team for the event.
The Sonoma County RCU team carried star shaped balloon bouquets, celebrating this year’s “A Time to Soar” theme. The Credit Union’s mascot, Reddy the Redwood, accompanied the walking teams at all three races, pausing to pose for photos and offer supportive “high-fives” to walkers and runners along the way.
“Redwood Credit Union is always excited to participate in the Human Race each year, as it brings such strong support from all over the community,” said Mishel Kaufman, RCU Senior Vice President and team captain for the Credit Union's Human Race efforts. “Although RCU supports and participates in numerous fundraising events throughout the year, the Human Race is unique in that it allows our staff to raise funds for whichever nonprofit they are truly passionate about.”
RCU demonstrates their commitment to the communities they serve through volunteerism, fundraising and donations, sponsorships, leadership on nonprofit boards, providing free financial literacy programs and more.
