Redwood Credit Union to Celebrate National Credit Union Youth Week

Santa Rosa, CA – Redwood Credit Union (RCU) will be celebrating National Credit Union Youth Week, April 17 through 23, 2011, with the theme “Money Rock$ at My Credit Union,” to encourage kids and teens to learn the value of saving money. Planned festivities include free educational seminars for families, plus contests, handouts and more. Details can be found online at www.redwoodcu.org/youthweek.

“National Credit Union Youth Week provides us a great opportunity to educate young people about financial matters in a fun and exciting way. Engaging kids and teens with fun activities like Youth Week is the first step in helping them develop responsible money habits at a early age, which will benefit them for a lifetime,” said Lee Alderman, Assistant Vice President of Educational Development at RCU. “Redwood Credit Union is committed to financial literacy for youths and adults, as well, to encourage conscientious money management skills that allow our Members and communities to pursue and achieve their financial goals and dreams,” Alderman added.

Free family seminars on saving and money management will be held on Tuesday, April 19 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at the following three locations:

  • Santa Rosa: Redwood Credit Union’s Administrative Offices, 3033 Cleveland Avenue, Santa Rosa
  • Rohnert Park: The Rohnert Park Chamber of Commerce, 101 Golf Course Drive #C-7, Rohnert Park
  • Novato: Redwood Credit Union’s Novato Branch, 1010 Grant Avenue, Novato

In addition, the Credit Union will be hosting a coloring contest for kids under 12, and a $100 Youth Savings Challenge for any RCU youth account holders who make a deposit into their RCU savings account during Youth Week.

RCU’s Youth Account program is divided into two groups: Jr. Rangers, for children through age 12, and Jr. Partners for teens, 13-17. Both age groups receive dividends on the funds they save, a free gift when opening an RCU savings account, quarterly educational and fun newsletters, online account access, and access to a special website with educational games and articles.
