Hamidah Salzmann, an Accounting Clerk for Redwood Credit Union in Santa Rosa, CA, recently won a 2010 Toyota Prius raffled off by United Way of the Wine Country as a grand prize for participating in their 2009 workplace fundraising campaign. A 2-year lease for a hybrid vehicle was donated by locally-owned Hansel Auto Group as an incentive to donors for contributing to United Way’s 2009 campaign, and Ms. Salzmann’s name was randomly selected as the winner at the recent United Way Campaign Close Celebration held at Ledson Winery in Kenwood. Upon winning the car, she announced that she planned to transfer the prize to her father, Muchtar Salzmann, who also attended the event.

“My dad is the best person I know, and he deserves this,” said Hamidah. “I felt this was a unique chance for a child to give back to their parent. I wanted to show appreciation for everything he’s done for our family, and since Redwood Credit Union and United Way are both committed to the spirit of giving back, this seemed like a perfect opportunity.”

“It was an emotional roller coaster,” Muchtar says of the moment his daughter told him she was giving him the car. “For me to accept it, I wanted to give her something in return, but no – it was totally for me,” he said, smiling through misty eyes.
