RCU contributes over $11,000 to Sonoma & Mendocino Human Races

Santa Rosa, CA – Teams of employees from Redwood Credit Union (RCU) participated in two Human Race events held simultaneously in Sonoma and Mendocino counties on May 5, 2012. Nearly 100 volunteers from RCU, including employees, family, friends and pets, walked or ran in the races, raising funds for a variety of local non-profit organizations. Sponsored by the counties’ Volunteer Centers, the Human Race invites participants to collect pledges and walk or run a 3K or 10K course to raise money for the local non-profit of their choice. More than 26 local non-profits benefited directly through RCU’s involvement.

At the Sonoma County Human Race, the RCU team carried colorful balloons celebrating the 31st anniversary of the Human Race. At the end-of-route marketplaces for the Mendocino and Sonoma County races, RCU volunteers handed out prizes to race participants and spectators. In addition to voluntary support and the Credit Union’s corporate sponsorship, RCU staff collected monetary pledges and donations, bringing RCU’s collective contributions to an all-time record of over $11,000 for these two regional efforts. RCU is also scheduled to participate in Marin County’s Human Race on May 12, 2012.

“Redwood Credit Union is excited to participate in the Human Race each year, as it brings such strong support from all over the community,” said Robin McKenzie, RCU Senior Vice President. “Although RCU supports and participates in numerous fundraising events throughout the year, the Human Race is unique in that it allows our staff to raise funds for whichever non-profit they are truly passionate about.”

RCU demonstrates their commitment to the communities they serve in a variety of ways through volunteerism, fundraising and donations, sponsorship, leadership on non-profit boards, free financial literacy programs and more. Each year, RCU supports numerous local non-profits including the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County, Tomorrow’s Leaders Today, the American Red Cross, Boys & Girls Clubs, United Way, and others. In 2011, RCU participated in more than 480 events and contributed 3,800 volunteer hours for the betterment of our communities.
