Resounding success for Houston area children’s charities

HOUSTON, TX (June 2, 2021) — After skipping a year due to the pandemic, the Houston Chapter of Credit Unions returned the annual golf event this year to raise funds for children’s charities on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. There were 132 golfers and many business partners that participated in the Chapter’s annual Golf Tournament at Wildcat Golf Club in the Houston area.

The Chapter partnered with CU Alliance to manage the tournament that resulted in gross revenue of over $57,000. After expenses, the net proceeds available for charity was $41,625.30 that was split between CU Alliance and the Chapter charities. The chapter will donate $29,137.71 to Children Charities within the Houston area and another $2,913.77 will fund the Chapter’s Disaster Relief Fund. CU Alliance will donate $12,487.59 to the CU Alliance Dream Educational Foundation.

Steve Gilman, the Chapter’s Children Charities director and President of Houston Texas Firefighter FCU enthusiastically said “a big thank you to everyone who helped organize the event, or volunteered, or played golf, or was there in spirit. Everyone I spoke to enjoyed the day and the opportunity to meet and see people they had not seen in over a year.”

The golf tournament is one of many efforts in which the Chapter supports the community and enhances the quality of life in the Greater Houston Area. The Houston Chapter of Credit Unions provides a collaborative environment for credit union professionals and volunteers to receive education, leadership development, and grow credit union community influence. The Houston Chapter is comprised of over 100 credit unions in the Houston metropolitan area.
