SAFE Credit Union raises more than $10,000 to fight cancer

SACRAMENTO, CA (May 28, 2015) ― SAFE and its members rallied to collect $10,000 for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life® of Elk Grove event.

SAFE Credit Union gave $2,500 and collected more than $6,100 from its members, who donated at local SAFE branches and via phone at the credit union’s call center. SAFE employees also took part in the event by creating themed gift baskets and selling them in both a raffle and silent auction to raise even more money for the American Cancer Society.

On the day of the 24-hour Relay For Life, held at Franklin High School in Elk Grove, a group of SAFE employees walked to raise funds, while others sold their gift baskets for the cause, gathering almost $1,400. Participants camped out overnight and team members took turns walking the track to support the American Cancer Society in its effort to prevent cancer and research to find a cure.

“SAFE’s participation in Relay For Life underscores our commitment to the community,” said SAFE CEO Henry Wirz. “We were honored to participate in and to raise funds for such a valuable cause.”
