San Diego County Credit Union celebrates Member Appreciation Week, October 18th-23rd

San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU), San Diego’s largest locally owned financial institution, has announced it will celebrate its annual Member Appreciation Week, from Monday, October 18 to Saturday, October 23, with in-branch giveaways, a special George Chamberlin financial seminar (Oct. 19) and a Shred Day (Oct. 23) at select branch locations.

Thursday, Oct. 21 has been declared as International Credit Union Day by the World Council of Credit Unions. SDCCU’s theme this year is “Serving our members, we have your best interest at heart,” which underlines the commitment to communities and trustworthy member service that credit unions embody. It is a week to bring awareness to the impact that credit unions are having on people’s lives and to recognize the full range of financial services available at credit unions, as well as other benefits, including lower rates on loans and higher rates on deposit accounts, compared to commercial banks. Since credit unions are not-for-profit financial institutions that are owned and governed by their members, any profits earned by credit unions are distributed as dividends and expanded services to members and the community. SDCCU is a well-recognized local corporate community sponsor which supports more than 75 non-profit organizations each year. SDCCU was recently voted BEST Credit Union for the 11th consecutive year in a San Diego Union-Tribune readers poll.

“Membership Appreciation Week is one way we can say thank you to our members and potential members and to raise awareness about the great achievements credit unions have done and are doing in the worldwide credit union movement,” said Teresa Halleck, San Diego County Credit Union president and CEO. “With a community-focused approach to member service, credit unions are recognized as a force for positive economic and social change. In serving our members, we have our members’ best interest at heart.”

Since 1948, International Credit Union Day has been celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October. According to the World Council of Credit Unions, there are more than 54,000 credit unions in the world serving nearly 186 million people in 97 countries.
