SAN DIEGO, CA (May 24, 2017) San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, is the proud presenting sponsor of the Media Arts Center San Diego’s Innovative Video in Education (iVIE) Student Film Awards and Film Festival. The 16th annual awards program honors elementary, middle and high school students for their original video work. It is the eighth consecutive year that SDCCU is the presenting sponsor.

“SDCCU is proud to present the Innovative Video in Education Student Film Awards and Film Festival. We applaud the talented work of all of the student filmmakers and the hard work and dedication of teachers in encouraging creativity and innovation in the classroom,” said Teresa Halleck, SDCCU president and CEO.

The festival and awards will take place June 3 at the Coronado Performing Arts Theater at Coronado High School, located at 650 D Ave. in Coronado. The Elementary School Show begins at 11:30 a.m., the Middle School Show is at 1:40 p.m. and the High School Show is at 3:40 p.m.

The event is expected to draw more than 1,200 students, parents, teachers and supporters. SDCCU will provide a $500 prize to the Grand Recognition winner in each age group. Select videos will air on ITV/Channel 16 in San Diego County.

The main purpose of iVIE is to encourage students to utilize video production as a project-based learning tool. Since 2001, iVIE has grown into a major video competition with hundreds of video submissions each year that are judged by media professionals and educators. Entries are submitted in a variety of categories ranging from math, science and language arts to documentary and public service announcements. Categories include all grade levels (elementary to high school) and in every curriculum area, from math to broadcast journalism.
