San Diego County Credit Union offers free shredding services on Saturday, November 5
SDCCU is the current Guinness World Record holder for the most paper collected and shredded in 24-hours
SAN DIEGO, CA (November 3, 2016) — San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, is offering free document shredding services at the following three locations from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 5: SDCCU El Cajon Branch at 312 W. Main Street; SDCCU National City Branch at 2525 East Plaza Boulevard; and Soka University of America at 1 University Drive in Aliso Viejo, Calif.
“With a greater prevalence of fraud and identity theft in recent years, the community needs an easy opportunity to dispose of sensitive data and SDCCU is happy to provide this free and convenient service,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Halleck. “The first rule in preventing identity theft is: if you don’t need it, shred it, and we are here to make that happen. I also recommend using SDCCU’s secure online banking services, such as eStatements, eNotices and eReceipts.”
The first 200 people at each location who take advantage of SDCCU’s free shredding services will receive a free gift. The public is invited to bring a maximum of two boxes (10” x 12” x15”) containing personal and confidential information to have it shredded on the spot at no charge in the parking lot of these three locations.
SDCCU began hosting its free Shred Day events in 2007 and has since collected, shredded and recycled over 2 million pounds of paper at no charge, saving over 21,100 trees (every 120 pounds shredded represents one saved tree).
Earlier this year, at the SDCCU Super Shred Event, SDCCU broke its existing Guinness World Records™ title for the most paper collected in a 24-hour period at a single location. The exciting occasion—held at Qualcomm® Stadium—helped thousands of people, used more than 70 trucks and resulted in the collection of a total of 589,251 pounds of paper.
