San Diego County Credit Union Partners With the San Diego Blood Bank to Help Save Lives

Blood drive held at six SDCCU locations; 378 lives saved

San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, partnered with the San Diego Blood Bank to host a blood drive at six SDCCU locations throughout San Diego, collecting more than 126 pints of much-needed blood, which equals approximately 378 lives saved.

The blood drive comes at a time when the blood inventory is critically low following a busy holiday season. The holidays and New Year are a challenging time for blood centers because while the demand for blood often increases, they tend to see a decline in donations due to the cold and flu season. Additionally, many people are on vacation during this time of year so sponsors have a tendency to hold fewer blood drives which strains the already stretched on-hand supply.

“All of us at SDCCU are proud to partner with the San Diego Blood Bank because lives depend on it,” said Teresa Campbell, SDCCU president and CEO. “We are grateful for the generous members of our community that came out and donated to support this great cause. During this time when the blood supply is critically low, we are committed to making a real difference in the lives of people who need blood through our support of the San Diego Blood Bank.”

More than 30 hospitals regularly rely on the San Diego Blood Bank every day. With a shelf life of just 42 days, the constant need for new donations is critical. To learn more about the San Diego Blood Bank or for more information, visit www.sandiegobloodbank.org.
