San Diego County Credit Union presented a free webinar on cyber security, including coronavirus scams and threats

Security expert Jim Stickley presented seminar as part of SDCCU’s Financial Wellness Wednesdays

SAN DIEGO, CA (June 1, 2020)San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), one of Southern California’s largest locally-owned financial institutions, presented a free educational webinar with security expert Jim Stickley on Wednesday, April 22. The webinar enabled the community to join the presentation online from the safety of their own homes to learn more about common scams and threats in the current environment.

Stickley offered valuable insight into various methods of cyber-attacks that criminals use and detailed how to reduce your risk by showing examples of real cases and more. Given the current environment, he specifically focused on scams and threats related to Coronavirus including scam emails and phone calls from the IRS, phishing emails appearing to come from a co-worker, malicious COVID-19 mobile apps, fake e-commerce websites selling essentials such as toilet paper and hand sanitizer, and healthcare updates promoting fake cures available for purchase. To watch a full recording of the webinar, visit sdccu.com/stickley.

Stickley has stolen credit cards, hacked Social Security numbers, robbed banks, created fake ATMs, broken into armed government facilities and stolen from teenagers. Fortunately for all victims involved, Jim is a cybersecurity expert with over 20 years in the industry who was hired to perform these attacks by corporations testing their security, and agencies interested in knowing just how easy it is to commit identity theft. His job is to find security flaws before the real criminals find them, and help educate people as well as organizations about what they can do to protect themselves.

Today, Stickley is the CEO of Stickley on Security and can be seen throughout the United States speaking on topics that range from basic identity theft to national cyber terrorism. In addition, Stickley can be seen on numerous TV news programs, is a frequent guest on NBC’s Today Show and is the security expert featured in Life Lock® infomercials.

The webinar is part of Financial Wellness Wednesdays, an ongoing program hosted by SDCCU to help provide the community access to free financial wellness information. For a complete list of upcoming Financial Wellness Wednesdays webinars, visit sdccu.com/fww.
