SAN DIEGO, CA (March 6, 2017) — San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, is proud to sponsor the 2017 Biocom Institute Festival of Science and Engineering San Diego, a ten-day educational experience to engage kids and families in all that encompasses STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).
The festival kicks off with EXPO Day on March 4 at Petco Park, which is free and open to the public. Several businesses and organizations will participate in EXPO Day, providing fun, interactive activities for kids. SDCCU’s booth will feature a fun game of finance trivia for kids with an opportunity for their parents to step into the SDCCU Cash Cube, a walk-in container where money flies through the air. Lucky parents will have the opportunity to spend 30 seconds and grab up to $500.
“SDCCU is a proud supporter of STEM education. It is incredibly important to teach kids at a young age the fundamentals of science, technology, engineering and innovation. STEM is not only a significant part of our daily lives but it is also vital to our future, the future of youth and the future of the economy,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Halleck.
The Biocom Institute Science and Engineering Festival San Diego EXPO Day will be followed by over 60 programs and events throughout the week all throughout the County of San Diego. As part of the weeklong festival, SDCCU is hosting a SDCCU Biz Kid$ Bash on March 8 at 5 p.m. at the Copley-Price Family YMCA Teen Center located at 4300 El Cajon Blvd. in City Heights. The bash is a free, fun and interactive session open to parents and children. Attendees will learn about money and business skills, how to write a business plan and how to create a successful business. Biz Kid$ is an award-winning comprehensive financial literacy program focused on teaching kids how to use credit wisely and the importance of saving, budgeting, investing and giving back to their communities.
