San Diego County Credit Union secures naming rights for San Diego stadium

Naming rights agreement names “SDCCU Stadium” through December 2018

SAN DIEGO, CA (September 20, 2017)San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, is proud to announce its naming rights partnership for “SDCCU Stadium,” following the San Diego City Council vote today to rename the iconic Mission Valley venue. The naming rights agreement for SDCCU Stadium, which was made between the City of San Diego and Fox Sports College Properties, extends through December 2018.

“We are extremely excited about this agreement,” said Duke Little, Vice President and General Manager Fox Sports College Properties. “SDCCU is one of the most recognizable brands in San Diego and believes in the importance of being an influential corporate citizen within the communities where they do business.”

“We are ecstatic that the City of San Diego and Fox Sports College Properties have selected SDCCU to be the naming rights partner for SDCCU Stadium. Helping our community thrive is at the heart of SDCCU’s values and the partnership further illustrates our support of the greater San Diego community,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Halleck. “We look forward to helping to position SDCCU Stadium as a premier venue in San Diego to host all types of events and are excited for all that it will bring to San Diego and surrounding areas, which will include the SDCCU Holiday Bowl this December.”

The SDCCU Holiday Bowl is slated for December 28, 2017, and is just one of many major events planned for SDCCU Stadium. In addition to serving as the home stadium for San Diego State University Aztecs football home games, other events scheduled at SDCCU Stadium are the Coldplay and U2 concert, Vans Warped Tour, Color Fun Run and the Great Inflatable Race, the Lunar New Year Festival, City of San Diego Recycle Event & San Diego County Lawn Mower Exchange Event and more. Since 1997, the Stadium has been named Qualcomm Stadium, until the naming rights partnership expired earlier this year. The Stadium was first named San Diego Stadium when it opened in 1967, until it was officially renamed San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium in 1981 in honor of the late San Diego sportswriter who was instrumental in bringing the Chargers football team to San Diego.

San Diego Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium. With a seating capacity of 70,561, San Diego Stadium is located in the heart of Mission Valley. The stadium has hosted three Super Bowl games: Super Bowl XXII in 1988, Super Bowl XXXII in 1998 and Super Bowl XXXVII in 2003. It also hosted the 1978 and 1992 Major League Baseball All-Star Games, the 1996 and 1998 National League Division Series, the 1984 and 1998 National League Championship Series, and the 1984 and 1998 World Series. It is the only stadium ever to host both the Super Bowl and the World Series in the same year (1998).

The naming rights partnership is one of many ways that SDCCU gives back to the community. Each year, SDCCU supports over 75 non-profits and participates in hundreds of community events designed to enhance lives in the areas where we operate. With such engagement with the community since 1938, San Diego County Credit Union is proud to place its name on the historic Mission Valley sports and entertainment venue.
