San Diego County Credit Union selected as a 2020 right on The Money Superhero Award Finalist

SDCCU recognized for outstanding response during COVID-19

SAN DIEGO, CA (October 16, 2020)San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), one of Southern California’s largest credit unions, was selected as a CRMNext Right on The Money Superhero Award finalist—which recognizes banks and credit unions that have gone above and beyond to deliver stellar experiences in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“SDCCU is honored to have been selected as a finalist for this award,” said Teresa Campbell, SDCCU president and CEO. “SDCCU’s guiding principle that ‘People Come First and Profits Second’ remained at the forefront in steering our response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and we’re pleased to be acknowledged for our efforts in navigating these unprecedented times.”

SDCCU was chosen as a finalist for its response plan for employees, customers and the community, which it mobilized several weeks before being told to do so by local, state and national officials. For SDCCU customers, this included loan payment relief with a 90-day deferral option on all consumer loans, including real estate, auto, credit card and personal loans. Business loan and commercial real estate loan deferment relief was also offered. Another potential 30-day deferral on loans was announced as the 90-day mark began to approach. Additionally, ATM fee waivers and early redemption penalty waivers for certificates were available for customers. Since the onset of the pandemic, SDCCU has deferred more than 55,000 loans totaling more than $1.3 billion in loan balances.

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of employees, SDCCU enhanced cleaning in all branches and work locations, emphasized continuous sharing of information to employees, distributed personal protective equipment, reduced branch hours, installed signage mandating social distancing and masks, placed Plexiglas in branches to help protect front line staff, and created a special thank you video to show appreciation to dedicated employees.

As a community leader and with many experiencing financial uncertainty, SDCCU mobilized quickly to deliver financial wellness webinars to the community, which included “Rebuilding After a Financial Crisis.” Additionally, to help give parents and teachers who were teaching kids virtually at home some resources and reprieve, SDCCU shared its SDCCU Biz Kid$ Program in a virtual format. The program, which is predominantly online and ideal for distance learning, helped engage kids at home with a fun and interactive way to learn about money and business. Since the onset of the pandemic, nearly 200 financial wellness presentations have been delivered to over 2,000 attendees.
