San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, is a proud sponsor of the 47th Annual Dana Point Festival of Whales, a celebration of the annual migration of California gray whales along California’s coastline. The event will be held over two weekends in March, 3-4 and 10-11, in the Orange County community of Dana Point.
“As a longtime sponsor of the Dana Point Festival of Whales, SDCCU is proud to once again bring the community together for this wonderful, fun-filled celebration in the Dana Point Harbor,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Halleck.
As the West Coast’s largest seafaring celebration, the Festival of Whales annually draws approximately 100,000 visitors during the height of the whale watching season. The event features whale watching excursions from Dana Point Headlands Conservation Park, a street fair geared towards families, arts and crafts exhibits, classic car and vintage boat displays, sand sculpting, educational environmental activities and concerts on land and water.
More than 20,000 California gray whales travel along the West Coast, headed from arctic waters to Baja California, as part of their 6,000-mile, 8-to-10-week migratory passing to give birth or mate. These 35-ton mammals also are joined by humpback whales, fin whales, blue whales and even pods of killer whales in recent years.
