San Francisco, Calif. (April 29, 2011) – San Francisco Federal Credit Union teamed up with the San Francisco Food Bank during the months of March and April.
San Francisco FCU partnered with the San Francisco Food Bank to help end hunger in San Francisco by raising awareness with employees and members. The Credit Union collected over 250 lbs. of food for families in need through a collection drive involving both members and employees.
In addition, 46 employees of San Francisco FCU donated their time to volunteer at the San Francisco Food Bank to package rice for distribution. President/CEO Steven Stapp also presented a donation check of $1,000 to the San Francisco Food Bank. In addition to the Credit Union’s donation, employees and members raised over $1,000 through various fundraising activities.
In San Francisco, 150,000 people struggle each day to feed themselves and their families. Established in 1988, the San Francisco Food Bank provides healthy food to alleviate hunger through three channels: direct distribution through neighborhood pantries, opening their warehouse to agencies to “shop” for selected foods, relief in the event of a citywide disaster or individual crisis. They partner with over 400 community organizations to provide food through senior and daycare centers, public schools, soup kitchens and other venues. San Francisco FCU has been a supporter of the San Francisco Food Bank for numerous years.
