San Francisco, Calif.
(May 31, 2012) – The management and staff at San Francisco Federal Credit helped clean up nearby playgrounds in partnership with the San Francisco Parks Alliance.

The San Francisco Parks Alliance (SFPA) and the Recreation and Park Department (RPD) survey public playgrounds every two years to determine the safety and quality of individual playgrounds as part of the Playground Initiative. The playground grades that result from these surveys are published in the Playground Report Card. The Report Card helps identify which playgrounds are in the worst condition and in need of the most attention.

On May 10th, 22 managers and the Chairman of the Board, Larry Doyle, volunteered to revitalize the Alioto Performing Arts Piazza Playground in front of City Hall. On May 31st, 45 employees gathered at the Buchanan Street Mall Playgrounds to clean playground equipment, sift sand, trim bushes and remove weeds from the surrounding flower beds.

“The Playground Initiative’s goal is to have 10 volunteer workdays over the spring and summer to greatly improve the playgrounds that are in the worst shape. Thanks to the San Francisco Federal Credit Union’s help, SF Parks Alliance was able to target four playground sites (with grades of B-, C, and F) in great need of cleaning and basic repairs to ensure children’s safety. The work of San Francisco Federal Credit Union volunteers improving both playgrounds areas has made a positive and measurable difference in the lives of Tenderloin and Western Addition children that regularly use these playgrounds,” said Julia Brashares, Stewardship Manager at SFPA.
