SAN FRANCISCO, CA (November 19, 2014) -- San Francisco Federal Credit Union, a not-for-profit, member-owned financial institution serving San Francisco and San Mateo Counties, challenged Kansas City credit union, Mazuma Credit Union, to a World Series bet last month.
The bet was simple, if the SF Giants won the World Series, Mazuma CU would send San Francisco Federal Credit Union and their CEO, Steven Stapp, some world famous Kansas City BBQ Sauce. If the KC Royals won, San Francisco Federal CU would send Mazuma and their CEO, Brandon Michaels, twenty loaves of Sourdough Bread.
As we all know, the San Francisco Giants took away the World Series crown, and Mazuma delivered on their promise, literally. Twenty bottles of BBQ sauce were delivered to San Francisco Federal Credit Union this week. Stapp is in the process of planning a special event in which all of the staff at San Francisco Federal Credit Union can enjoy the winnings.
The credit unions also took this opportunity to contribute to charities in the opposing communities. While the bet was originally just for the losing team to donate, both financial institutions have contributed to social services organizations in the different cities. Mazuma CU donated to St. Anthony’s in San Francisco, and San Francisco FCU donated to the Kansas City Rescue Mission, a similar group in Kansas City.
The bet was a great opportunity for both institutions to interact and connect within the credit union network. They both enjoyed some friendly banter on Twitter and Facebook, and got some exposure within the community. Although it was surely disappointing to see the Kansas City Royals defeated, Mazuma will at least know they offered a donation to a local charity and allowed some San Franciscans to enjoy their world famous BBQ.
