San Mateo Credit Union (SMCU) is pleased to announce the 2022 recipients of its annual SMCU Financial Education Scholarship: Adrienne Chen and Aylin Salahifar. This year’s recipients were among more than 200 applicants, and their selection was based on community service, outstanding academics, and an essay.
Chen graduated Capuchino High School and will be attending the University of California, Los Angeles. Her essay focused on her dedication to helping economically disadvantaged students reach their full potential. From volunteering as a STEM tutor, to securing school supplies and food and housing resources for youth, she is driven by seeing the success of others.
Salahifar, of Carlmont High School is bound for Stanford University. Her essay highlighted her philosophy of compassion and how it led her to community hospice volunteering, local environmental advocacy, and creating an online peer tutoring center during distance learning providing free tutoring services serving families across the US, India, Turkey, Canada, and Kazakhstan.
The two winners were announced at the livestreamed SMCU Annual Meeting on May 26.
