Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union (SLFCU) has promoted Barbara "BJ" Jones to the newly created position of Chief Diversity & Impact Officer.
"This new position will strategically enable us to attract, grow and retain diverse, talented employees as well as serve our members and the communities where we are located. To be successful, it is important for us to strengthen everything about SLFCU to reflect the communities we serve,” said Stephanie Sherrodd, Chief Executive Officer.
Jones was previously senior vice president of organizational effectiveness at SLFCU. She joined the credit union in 2014 after a successful career in human resources, organizational development and project management with Sandia National Laboratories. She's a graduate of Stanford University with a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in medical microbiology.
Jones recalled she came out of retirement to join SLFCU because she was excited about working for an organization she knew firsthand. "I had been a member of the credit union for years and knew it was a great organization with great people. I was intrigued by the opportunity to help it continue to grow and progress," she explained.
In her new role, Jones wants to focus on building a strong, inclusive culture of respect, not only among credit union teams, but also among SLFCU's members, vendors, partners and the communities it serves.
"We are starting from a good position, but I know we can do more and I'm excited by the challenge. As a nonprofit financial partner, we can empower the communities we serve economically. We can have a huge influence in showing how integrity, care and doing things in a respectful way make a difference. We can be an amazing force in moving everyone we come in contact with forward," Jones explained.
